You shouldn't host your fileshares on a DC anyway, so of course
member<->member is supported. The DFS Namespace though is usually
hosted on DCs.

Are you supposed to have the fileshares on a file server? What
ramifications does this cause? What about if you only need user
profiles in a small office? Could you then put the shares on a DC if
you didnt have a file server?

Ideally you should host file shares on a member server. In reality it would
be very hard to expect that a branch office with 10 users would need a DC
and a member server. One for logins and one for file shares.

You can put file shares on a DC, it's just not best practice.
