Some customers report success using the following KB:
this article and had to do some extra tweaks. The original post title was
want to search for it.
This one did it - thanks!
1. Stop the DFS service by typing net stop dfs at a command prompt.
a. Delete the Volumes folder and any subfolders under
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DfsHost.
b. Delete all subfolders under
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DfsDriver\LocalVolumes, leaving
LocalVolumes intact.
c. Delete the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfs\Roots\Domain\xxx, where xxx
represents the faulty namespace
3. From the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, click Advanced
Features on the View menu. Open the DFS-Configuration container under the
System folder. Delete the DFS root in the right pane.
4. Restart the DFS service you stopped in step 1; net start dfs
I added step 2c the rest is copied from the article.
Also noteworhty: I did not have the LocalVolumes key in step 2b - so I
could
not delete it's subfolders...
In fact, that URL does work, but you need do more than what the URL
says. To
remove/reinstall DFS is not helpful, DFS root information was stored in
Registry on the computer and Active Directory on DCs, so remove keys
from
Registry and remove informatin from Active Directory. Please try to
delete
one more key under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfs\Roots\Domain. Good luck.

After some confusion and trial and error, I now have a (domain) server
from
wich I cannot delete a namespace.
In the DFS manager I can see the namespace with a "red cross" icon
"The namespace cannot be queried. Element not found."
I've tried this article: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=224384 but
it
does
not help.
I'v also tried removing/re-installing the DFS services/tools
(add/remoce
windows components).
How can I get rid of this faulty namespace, so I can create a new
working
one?
Please - any help is gratly appreciated.
