Discussion:
Vista as a DFSR member

I found this article while trying to replicate folders from a 2003 R2
server to a local Vista workstation.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930516

Is it true that a Vista workstation cannot be a member of a DFSR
replication group? Is there any way to replicate from a server to a
workstation?

I am not looking for the "offline files" solution- this is a
workstation that is always online, but I would like to have a local
copy of the files for use on the local workstation.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Ryan,

The KB from Microsoft seems to be correct, I haven't seen anything that will
say otherwise,

Vista does have the "DFS Replication" service, so you'd almost think
this would be possible, but I too haven't found any supporting
documentation anywhere.

Thanks for the responses. It looks like Vistra DFSR is not going to
play with Server 2003 R2 DFSR. Bummer. It would have solved a few
problems for me and would have been a cool solution.

Oh, well. Maybe in Windows 7...

You and me both. I had dreams of turning DFS-R into a version of
offline files that actually worked, but alas.
