The DFS may create a large staging folder, and may reach over limit if you have large amount of data that is not similar on both
sides.
Microsoft recommends having both folders as similar as possible before starting replication. Thus you can restore from tapes
before starting the DFS.
You can also copy the data using robocopy over the network before starting the DFS. Be sure t use a large /IPG so it will not
interfer with low-bandwidth lines.

they are both running windows 2003 r2
I assume i setup the drive on each server put the data on both servers then
setup the dfs would that be right
I think so but I only have a single site with a GBit connection between the
servers so pre-staging the replication was not necessary. 300Gbyte easily
replicated overnight.
Most here are careful to refer to the replication service as DFSR, some use DFSN
for the name space component. DFS is not such a specific term and can refer to
either.
Post by Andrewmany thanks
Post by DaveMillsThe first question is what OS versions on each server. W2003 R2 and W2008 have
much better facilities the W2K or W2003

I am looking to setup DFs between 2 offices, office 1 (primary) has say 60gb
of data i want replicated to office 2, is it possible to restore the 60gb of
data to office 2 from tape and setup dfs to work without having DFS to to
transfer the 60gb of the vpn line ?
hope that makes sense
many thanks
