Hi,
I cannot delete any folder (with or without folder target) in DFS namespace
structure on Windows 2008 server. It is domain type of namespace. The error
message is "The folder cannot be deleted. Cannot complete this function."
This error apears if I want add folder target too. The domain is Windows 2008
level.
The domain was upgraded from windows 2000 domain and DFS was first
implemeted on windows 2008 server. I have three namaspace servers.

Thank you for help

Hi Ales,

We have been suffering the exact same problem for the last few days
following a 2000 to 2008 migration and I’ve just got off the phone,
with a very helpful guy at MS support.

It turned out that our problem was that we hadn't upgraded our Forest
functionality level from 2000 to 2008; we had only upgraded the
Domain. I don’t know if this’ll be the same in your case, but because
we only have one Domain then we don’t bother to think about things
like Forests!

If you load up ‘Active Directory Domains and Trusts’ on a DC, and
right click on ‘Active Directory Domains and Trusts’ at the top level
and select ‘Raise Forest Functional Level…’ it’ll say what the current
level is and allow you to upgrade it to 2008. The MS guy then
restarted the DFS Namespace service on one of the servers before
trying to delete folders and add links. He didn’t restart it on the
other Namespace server though, but it seemed happy.

Hope this helps,
Ed

Thank you Ed, I noticed some day ago that my forest level was windows 2000
and I raised this to 2008 level.
Now I can delete DFS folders.
